Believe In Yourself

What you believe, you become.  What you believe you can do, you do.  Sound simple…..it is.  Will it happen overnight. NO.  Consistency is key.  You will hear me say that a lot but it’s true and I’m hoping the more I say it the better chance of you believing in it.

You’ve heard it said, you can do anything you put your mind too.  Think of a  little baby who is trying to learn how to walk.  Does its parents tell it “You can’t do that.”  No, of course not.  They encourage he/she with words like “You can do it!”  And what about the baby, he/she doesn’t know any better so every time they fall, what do they do?  They get up and try again.  That old saying “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again” has more truth to it than you know.  And power!

Words have power!  With just the right tone, they can make a man cower in fear or encourage the faint of heart up to accomplish great things.  Think about it.  Let’s say you want to try something new.  You are all excited about your new venture!  You’ve gathered everything you need, done your research, practiced if necessary and you are ready to begin and then your best friend says something like “Why would you want to do that?  It’s just a waste of time.”  Doubt starts to creep in, your excitement starts to fade and before you know it, you don’t want to do it anymore.

Understand, they’re will always be naysayers but you can take in what they say and make it part of your beliefs or you can throw it in the garbage where it belongs!  My question to you is…..What are you telling yourself?  That is the secret, the key to doing ANYTHING you want to do.  So what if you’ve never done it before or know absolutely nothing about it!  That’s what they have schools for (and You tube!)  Fill your mind with CAN.  I CAN do anything I put my mind to.  I CAN go back to college at whatever age, I CAN start a new career, I CAN….you fill in the blank. Who says you can’t?  Usually it’s yourself filling your mind with words like, I’m too old, too fat, too ugly, too whatever!  Society has a way of beating people down but we allow it.  It doesn’t have to be that way!

This blog is proof of that.  I’ve wanted to write for years but haven’t ever done it.  Throughout the years I’ve told myself things like, “I’m too busy.  I don’t have a college education.  What do I know?, I’ve failed at most everything I’ve done.”  And the list goes on.  But then it was pointed out to me, I served in the United States Army (making it through basic was tough!), I have two fantastic daughters that I’ve raised, I’ve moved from the bottom position into management in not one but two fields.  And this list goes on, too!   But about the blog.  I’ve always “jokingly” said, I’m computer illiterate.  I have a hard time getting all the techy stuff down!  Just ask my husband and daughter.  But I got a wild hair that I wanted to write a blog.  I read it was easy….. so I purchased a domain name and all the stuff I read I would need.  And then I realized…I have to do this but how?  I FROZE!  What was I thinking?  I don’t know how to do this!  OH MY GOSH!!!!  I spent all this money and don’t have a clue as to what to do!  Then I met Daniel.  He’s the husband of a fellow Health Coach and as we sat next to each other at dinner, I overheard him say something about designing web pages.  I about flew out of my seat!  I got so excited!  We talked and exchanged emails and I just knew it was a done deal.  Daniel helped install the software I had purchased and then told me to go to You Tube to learn how to finish it up.  He told me it shouldn’t take but a few hours to learn….”You can do this!” he said.   What?  You mean I still have to DO this?  But I can’t!  So, more months past….and still no website.  UGH!   I called my cousin who my sister reminded me had built websites in the past.  He encouraged me to go to You Tube.  “It’s not that hard.”  he said.   Seriously?  Come on God!  Help a girl out! (and He did!) Then I got an email that said I was going to have to pay my annual dues for my website.  What website!  I knew I had to do something.  I mean here I am the woman who encourages EVERYONE else to believe in themselves.  I CAN DO THIS!  So the research started.  I watched hours of You Tube videos.  Over and over again but still no website so finally, I dove in.  Back and forth between You Tube and my website I went, spoon-feeding myself until at last….IT WAS DONE!  I couldn’t believe it!  When I posted my first blog last week, you’d have thought I climbed Mount Everest or broken an Olympic record!  I couldn’t have been more proud of myself!  The sense of accomplishment was overwhelming.   I say all that to say this.  For almost a year I told myself I couldn’t do it.  I never SAID that to myself, but I insinuated it through my beliefs.  Once I started believing in myself, I did it.  And so can you.  Is there something you’ve always wanted to do?  Like Nike says…………….JUST DO IT!
